The All American Home
We have everything we need to create jobs and lower unemployment — improving our collective quality of life — all we have to do is reallocate 5% of our spending, whether personal or business, to American made products.
Social
Using American-made products is socially just. It ensures that workers are being treated fairly, and it sends the message that human beings cannot be treated poorly in order to build homes in the land of the free. You make the call.
Economic
On average, the US builds about 1.4 million homes each year at a construction cost of about $280 Billion. If builders reallocate 5% of their construction spending to American made products, this would add roughly $10 billion to the American GDP. So what if every family in the US reallocated 5% of their spending to American products? This would translate into the creation of roughly 3 million jobs!
Environmental
Most coal-fired plants in the developing world are only capable of converting 27% to 36% of the energy in coal to electricity, and only a handful have the equipment to remove sulfur compounds that cause acid rain. Though the US is not perfect in this regard, we have much more stringent regulations and more diverse energy sources than these developing countries. This means, the simple act of producing building materials in the US has a significantly smaller impact on the environment.
